Mazhavillu - State Wide Anti stigma Campaign on HIV/AIDS
 
 
Mazhavillu, the Statewide Anti-Stigma Campaign on HIV/AIDS, is currently being launched in Kerala. The campaign will run from November to December.
 
On November 9, 2009 the statewide inauguration of the “Red Ribbon Caravan” was done. The “Red Ribbon Caravan” began its 2- month-long journey at M.A.M. High School, Koratty. On its first day, the Red Ribbon Caravan reached two public places, five schools and approximately 6,000 children and 500 adults with its anti-discrimination messages. Chief Guest Shri.K.P.Dhanapalan M P inaugurated the Red Ribbon Caravan followed by a street play, magic show, distribution of IEC materials and a speech by a HIV positive speaker. The Red Ribbon Caravan will reach ten schools in each district as well as key public places and end on December 12 in Ernakulam.
 
As part of the campaign, four HIV affected children from each district of Kerala were invited to Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery, Ernakulam for a 3-day workshop on November 6, 7, & 8, 2009. In the workshop, the children prepared a Manifesto listing their concerns regarding HIV/AIDS. This manifesto will be shared with concerned government officials in order to address the issues HIV affected children face. The campaign will conclude with a valedictory of the programme and exhibition of campaign materials in Trivandrum.
 
Mazhavillu will also include district level seminars with officials of various Government Departments and NGOs as well as Media Workshops in all districts. The campaign will finish with a valedictory in Trivandrum.
 
RAJAGIRI outREACH in association with Council of People living with HIV/AIDS in Kerala (CPK+), Kerala Positive Women’s Network (KPWN), Kerala Forum for Children Affected by HIV/AIDS, Association of Schools of Social Work in Kerala (ASSK), Human Right Law Network (HRLN), Kerala State AIDS control Society (KSACS) and various Government Departments implements the programme, supported by UNICEF.
